The Gleaning Initiative harvests excess produce from local farms, orchards, and gardens and redistributes it to communities throughout Cumberland County. We hope to significantly increase the amount of produce redirected from fields to organizations working with low-income populations. With the help of our volunteers we are able to reduce on-farm food waste and redistribute food to underserved communities.

What do our volunteers love about gleaning?
"I glean because I believe that access to healthy, fresh food is a right, and since I am able to help get food to those in need, I have an obligation to do so. I also love to visit the farms and get my hands (and arms, feet, knees, face, etc.!) dirty. The camaraderie is great, the sunshine is nourishing, and the satisfaction in playing a small role in alleviating food insecurity can't be beat."
